Was it the shoe?

The questioned has been raised as to whether the Triple Crown was lost by a partially lost horseshoe.
There is some great evidence in photographs on the Bloodhorse.com website. You can clearly see where Big Brown had half of his shoe ripped off by another horse who stepped on his hind leg. I can't imagine any horse running a good race with part of his shoe dangling. I guess the only way we will know just how good Big Brown is if and when he meets the likes of Curlin. Meanwhile Delaware jockey Jeremy Rose was handed down a six month suspension for what is said to be an accidental whipping of his horse's eye during a race. Jeremy said in a statement that his mount was lugging in and he was whipping his horse on the shoulder when he accidentally struck him in the eye. Now I did not see the race or any replay of it to see exactly what happened, but taking Jeremy at his word it is an awful harsh suspension that they gave him. He also was ordered to pay all medical cost that the horse would need, which he offered to do on his own accord before the ruling. I feel for him because things like this can happen easily and without malice yet they've taken away his ability to earn a living for six months. I wonder how the stewards would feel if they were suspended without pay every time they made a bad call?
