Well it's been some time now since Big Brown destroyed the Preakness field. I guess I don't need to tell you how impressive of a victory that was. Believe it or not you still have your doubters and party poopers that would like to see Big Brown fail on his quest for the Triple Crown. They are complaining about the fact that he didn't beat anyone. I say he beat the best three year old's we had to offer this year. Like any year that the triple crown has been won I am sure you could think at the time that these great horses weren't beating anyone because there wasn't a horse good enough to beat them. So I am going to break it down like this. The race that Big Brown ran was so impressive from the stand point of a jockey that it really didn't matter who he was running against. There have been many great horses who beat themselves on any given day. Coming out of the first turn when they had Big Brown boxed in behind horses and Kent literally had to stand up on him slow him down to a gallop so that he could maneuver him into a clear position, was enough to make most race horses quit. When you have to stop a horse from running they will almost always spit the bit and stop running altogether. For Big Brown to do this and then accelerate again on Kent's command was arguably one of the most impressive moves I've seen a horse do. Later in the race when my man Kent was clowning around looking at everyone the horse still kept to task and showed a turn of foot that you normally only see on quarter horses. He opened up five to eight lengths in a matter of seconds. This was yet another display of his ability. Rather than look around and stop when there were no more horses around him he wanted to keep running. Kent had to take hold of him again so that he would save himself and Gallop across the wire. Now rather than marvel at the history we have already seen and the history we will hopefully see on June 7th, people are focused on Casino Drive the horse that's going to spoil the Triple Crown efforts of Big Brown. Good I say. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to get even money on Big Brown. Funny thing about all this is that Big Brown won the first leg of the triple crown on my oldest sons birthday and if he wins the last leg of it, it will be on my youngest sons birthday. Go figure.
