The great Eddie D.

Hall of fame rider Eddie Delahoussaye underwent hip replacement surgery tuesday. Winner of 6,384 races he retired after a head and neck injury from a spill that occured at Del Mar. After suffering a severe concusion doctors told him that the risk from falling agin was to great. At age 56 the wear and tear of riding over 39,000 mounts he needed to have a total hip replacement. Eddie was one of the nicest and humble men you would ever meet. It makes me think of the times when I was in the jocks room just standing there amoung such greats as Chris McCarron, Laffit Pincay, Kent Desormeaux, and of course Eddie Delahoussaye. When I think back on it, it is truly amazing that I got to ride with such great men. Watching the replay of a race I just rode with Chris and having him give me advise on what to do and what not to do. I wish Eddie a speedy recovery and owe him a big thank you for the times he sat and read the racing form with me.
